WE VALUE YOUR INPUT AND LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM YOU!
Are you OK with what “Our Elected Leaders” are doing in Lansing and Washington DC? Our rights are being eroded more and more everyday. This week’s survey questions are related to what our elected officials have done and are planning to do and how that will impact out lives.
As always there will be a “COMMENTS:” area where you can give us your input. We would like to know what is important to you and we look forward to hearing from you.

LAST WEEK'S SURVEY RESULTS
Last week’s survey on MICHIGAN GOP US SENATE CANDIDATES, TERM LIMITS AND COMPETENCY showed that Mike Rogers was a clear winner probably based on name recognition because he had served as Clinton County’s Congressman for several years. Clinton County’s Michael Hoover came in second tied with “none of the above”. For the rest of the survey questions it was a mixed bag with “cognitive tests” being preferred for the President, Supreme Court Justices, and for members of Congress. Terms limits was the preferred choice for members of Congress but that will never happen. Requiring members of congress to retire at a defined age was preferred while for Supreme Court Justices the answer was no. I probably should not have included the President in with the congress members on the retirement age question because the response was that they should all be required to retire at a set age.
In last weeks’ survey we had 32 responses that were tabulated.
HERE ARE LAST WEEKS’ RESULTS:
With US Senator Debbie Stabenow retiring as one of Michigan’s two US Senators republican voters will have to pick a candidate to run against the Democrat’s candidate. At this time who would you want to see as the republican party’s candidate in the 2024 November election?
1 — James Craig (Former Detroit police chief)
5 — Michael Hoover (Entrepreneur/Businessman)
0 — Peter Meijer (Former U.S. Congressman)
16 — Mike Rogers (Former U.S. Congressman)
3 — Nikki Snyder (State Board of Education Member)
5 — None of the above
1 — No response
Currently members of the US Supreme Court serve until death or when they choose to retire. Should there be term limits for Supreme Court Justices?
8 — Yes
16 — No
8 — Undecided
Should US Supreme Court members be required to retire at a defined age?
9 — Yes
15 — No
8 — Undecided
Should US Supreme Court members be required to have cognitive ability evaluations if they have diminished metal capabilities that have become evident?
14 — Yes
10 — No
8 — Undecided
Should there be term limits for US House members and US Senators?
21 — Yes
7 — No
4 — Undecided
Should US House members, US Senators, and the President be required to retire at a set age?
17 — Yes
11 — No
4 — Undecided
Should US House members and US Senators be required to have cognitive ability evaluations if they have diminished metal capabilities that have become evident?
17 — Yes
11 — No
1 — Undecided
Should the President be required to have cognitive ability evaluations if they have diminished metal capabilities that have become evident?
19 — Yes
7 — No
6 — Undecided
--------------------
I believe that term limits should be established at the Federal level. Age limits are more difficult, but I definitely believe that mechanisms should be put in place that would test cognitive abilities and provide for the removal of any government person who fails to pass the standards established.
--------------------
I don’t trust the same government that can’t define a woman to define cognitive. Founding fathers put term limits in the constitution: they called them elections. Term limits and age limits and cognitive limits is an easy thing to turn to when beating an old incumbent seems hard, but deciding our representatives should be solely in the hands of the voters, not the government. I think a reform that’d make more sense would be campaign finance reforms that put incumbents and challengers are on a more even playing field. We have the most Conservative Supreme Court we’ve had in decades today, I don’t support any reforms that’d push out Justices Thomas and Alito while Biden and Schumer can decide their successors.
--------------------
In a ideal world or Republic, our government leaders should serve as public servants. A duty and honor to the Republic, means when it is time to step down, they will know when.
--------------------
The ‘cognitive’ rules would be selectively enforced against conservatives. You can’t make fair rules with people who refuse to follow rules. The left is inherently lawless.
--------------------
The questions assume that the use of a cognitive test will not be abused. Corrupt people can figure out a way to game the system. We the people need to ensure the ststem is not corrupt, and we need to do a better job of getting righteous people in office.
--------------------
There are already term limits for House and Senate members; they are called elections. As to cognitive ability testing, the same applies. If voters believe someone is no longer fit to be in office, voters should vote them out of office. A Supreme Court that is term limited would be like a revolving door in terms of credibility.
--------------------
These questions are a little broad. I don't think age is a factor. Look at Pres. Trump. He still has it. Whereas the corrupt one, Feinstein, Pelosi and McConnel do not. I think term limits sometimes boots the good ones out. Shouldn't voters, no matter how uninformed or stupid have the ultimate decision on who they want to represent them. However, I am not opposed to one in office having to take a cognitive ability test at a certain age such as 75, 78, 80+
--------------------
Tougher questions on this survey - term limits typically favor the people - but in the judiciary - tougher call….
--------------------
We believe the Clinton County Board of Commissioners should have to pass cognitive ability evaluations and a skills test equivalent to a 4 year college bachelor’s degree!
--------------------
